Sri Sivaprakasa Swamigal was born in Kanchipuram as the eldest of four children to Kumarasamy Desikar, a devoted Veerashaiva. From an early age, he showed deep love for Lord Shiva and spiritual learning.

A Journey of Devotion

After the death of his father, Sivaprakasa travelled to many sacred places, worshipping Lord Shiva and seeking true spiritual wisdom. During this journey, he met the great saint Perur Shanthalinga Swami.

The Divine Dream

Both saints stayed at the newly renovated Aiyanarappan Temple near Bommapuram. Shanthalinga said that he could sing and worship the Bommapura Aatheenam Sivagyana balaya  Swami, but Sivaprakasa refused, saying, “I will not sing in the name of any human being.”

Realizing this through his asceticism, Sri Sivagnanabalaya  Swami appeared in Siva Prakasar ‘s dream that night, as lord Murugan, and gave him some loose flowers and asked him to make a garland out of them. 

Realising the True Guru

The following day, when Sivaprakasa had the darshan of Sri Sivagnanabalaya Swami, a divine light filled his heart. He realised that the Swami was not an ordinary human but his incomparable Gyana Guru. Understanding that Shiva and the realised Guru are one, he joyfully composed five great works in his Guru’s honour:

• Nenjuvidudhu
• Talattu
• Pillaithamizh
• Kalampakam
• Thirupalliyezhuchi

A Life of Literary Greatness

Sri Sivaprakasa Swamigal composed a total of 34 spiritual works, enriching Tamil devotional literature with profound wisdom, devotion, and philosophy.

Attaining Sivayoga Samadhi

At the age of 32, Sri Sivaprakasa Swamigal attained Sivayoga Samadhi at the Sri Sivagnanabalaya Swamigal Mutt branch in Nallatur. On the auspicious day of Tamil month Purattasi, Monday, the full moon day, he attained samadhi.  

The Sacred Samadhi Shrine

A newly constructed Samadhi shrine with a three-tiered vimana, along with shrines for Sri Vinayagar and Sri Thandayuthabani, was consecrated on Friday, 10 October 2003 by the Guru Maha Sannidhanam of Mayilam Bommapuram with all the rituals.

The temple was later renovated once again, and the reconstructed shrine was consecrated with all traditional rituals on 1 July 2018 (Tamil year Vilambi) on Sunday by the 20th Guru Maha Sannidhanam of Mayilam Bommapuram .
