In 1982, Chitra was a young astrologer in Puducherry. Having studied astrology, palmistry, numerology, Vastu, and other traditional sciences, he confidently predicted people’s futures. One day, a friend told him about a mysterious Siddhar named Shanmugam Adigalar, a master of Vasi Yoga and Pancha Pakshi Sastra. Curious and eager to learn, Chitra decided to meet him.

The First Meeting

Chitra and his pregnant wife traveled to Villupuram to see the Siddhar. When Shanmugam Adigalar arrived, his calm eyes and radiant presence immediately impressed him. Chitra boldly requested to learn Vasi Yoga and Pancha Pakshi.

The Test of Pride

Instead of teaching him, the Swami took Chitra to a small tailor shop and handed him a horoscope. It was his own horoscope. He asked Chitra to predict his future. Chitra analyzed it carefully and confidently offered predictions and remedies. The Swami listened patiently and even paid him for the consultation. Feeling proud of his abilities, Chitra believed he had proven himself.

A Prophecy Comes True

Before Chitra left, the Swami predicted that his travel plans would fail and that he would stay overnight in another village because of unexpected news of a death. Chitra dismissed the prediction. However, events unfolded exactly as the Swami had described. Delays, unexpected circumstances, and news of a tragic railway accident forced him to stay where he was. Shocked by the accuracy of the prediction, his pride began to crumble.

The Beginning of Discipleship

The next day, Chitra rushed back to the Swami. Overcome with emotion, he fell at his feet and cried. The Swami gently explained Pancha Pakshi Sastra and accepted him as a student. This marked the beginning of a relationship that would last nearly three decades.

A Life with the Guru

For nine years (1983-1992), Shanmugam Adigalar lived in Chitra’s home. After that Swami ji shifted from there because the family was expanding, but for 28 years, the disciple remained near the Siddhar, attending satsangs and learning spiritual wisdom. Shanmugam Adigalar lived simply, avoided publicity, and taught meditation, self-discipline, and devotion.

Miracles of Compassion

Many people believed the Siddhar possessed extraordinary spiritual powers. If ever asked, he would say that it was all Vallalar’s doing and remain silent!

  • A woman named Veerammal reportedly died from a snakebite. Her grieving husband brought her body to the Swami. After applying sacred ash (Vibhuti), the Swami left for Tiruvannamalai. By the next morning, the woman was said to be alive and preparing coffee.
  • In another incident, a young boy named Senthil was believed dead after a snakebite. The Swami blessed him with Vibhuti and advised hospitalization. The boy recovered and later became a government school teacher.
  • The Swami often visited villages carrying only simple tablets such as Anacin and Aspro. Regardless of the illness, he would distribute these medicines without charge. Villagers believed that through his blessings and divine will, many recovered from serious ailments.
  • Chitra himself experienced relief from severe swelling after the Swami merely gazed at his affected leg. Later, the Swami described it as a form of spiritual healing known as Nokku Varma.
  • Farmers frequently sought his blessings for rain. According to his disciples, rain would sometimes fall exactly where needed while nearby fields remained dry. Such events strengthened their faith in his spiritual powers.

Humility Above Fame

Despite stories of miracles, Shanmugam Adigalar rejected fame and publicity. When a magazine editor offered money to publish his life story, the Swami became angry and refused. He believed a true spiritual teacher should help sincere seekers rather than seek recognition.

The Greatest Teaching

When asked how he performed miracles, the Swami gave a simple answer:

“The mind is the world. Life follows the mind. Purify the mind through satsang, and life becomes pure.”

For Chitra, this teaching was more important than any miracle. Over twenty-eight years, he learned that spiritual growth came through inner transformation, not supernatural powers.

Samadhi of Siddha

After the Siddhar attained Samadhi, his mortal remains were placed in a Samadhi at the Ottampattu Ashram on the way from Kandachipuram to Thiruvannamalai, but it is believed that the subtle body is all around us! Because he has lived in Pondicherry for twenty-eight years!

Moreover, Swamiji himself has said that if a temple is built for him in Pondicherry, his subtle power will be manifested in it!

That’s why a temple was built in Pondicherry in his memory! It is a realized fact that his subtle body is embodied in the statue erected for him in this temple!
