The Meaning of Adhishtanam
In the Advaita tradition established by Adi Shankaracharya, the sacred resting place of a guru is called an Adhishtanam. It is a sacred seat where the Guru is revered as one who has merged with Brahman. Devotees also say the Guru has attained Brahmalokam—complete union with the Supreme.
Guru and Siddha
The Gurus are the spiritual successors of Adi Shankaracharya. Their purpose is to preserve and teach Advaita Vedanta. Their greatness lies in wisdom, renunciation, and guidance.
